January 05, 2022

From Boston to Bali, Martin Brudnizki to Patricia Urquiola, the roster of game-changing hotels and resorts set to open this year is expansive. While no two are the same—take the moody, Gilded Age-inspired Fifth Avenue Hotel versus the serene Six Senses Rome for example—these are the brands and designers pushing design forward in 2022.

Rock House, Turks & Caicos Winter 2022

Designed by Shawn Henderson and Coast Architects, this five-star resort is located on the north coast of Providenciales with 350 feet of secluded private beachfront. The stylish beach club will feature a jetty, extending 100 ft in to the ocean, and the largest infinity pool on the island.

And Beyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge — June 2022

Following the flooding of And Beyond’s Grumeti Serengeti lodge in 2020, the rebuild will be completed by Fox Brown Creative and architect Jack Alexander. The new design will be a tribute to the Grumeti River, following its bow shape and paying homage to the circular forms of a traditional Masai manyatta. Guest suites will be double the size of the former resort and will feature outdoor showers and plunge pools.

Six Senses Rome — Fall 2022

The first Italy location of wellness-focused resort brand Six Senses will be set within the 18th-century Piazza di San Marcello. Following the brand’s entry into Singapore, New York and London, Six Senses Rome will live by all of its values with a particular emphasis on wellness, delicious food, community and sustainable design. The interior design is by Patricia Urquiola.

Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences — End of 2022

Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences, designed by Stonehill Taylor, will mark the brand’s first mixed-use development in North America. Raffles Boston will showcase thoughtful, locally inspired design while enhancing the cosmopolitan charm of the Back Bay. The hotel will offer signature services such as the Raffles Butler, six restaurants and bars, and a three-story sky lobby.

Fifth Avenue Hotel Summer 2022

Designed by renowned interior designer Martin Brudnizki, the Fifth Avenue Hotel is an oasis of calm amidst the frenetic pace of Manhattan. Situated in the stylish NoMad neighborhood, design is inspired by the Gilded Age featuring a palette of rich colors and materials. The hotel will feature compelling art and engaging cultural experiences, four restaurants and bars, and a ballroom.

Rosewood Vienna — Summer 2022

For the fifth European property, the Rosewood Vienna is housed in an historic 18th century building on Petersplatz, one of the most famous squares in Vienna’s Old Town. Combining the best of European architecture and design with a refined yet modern style, the hotel will serve as an unsurpassed gateway to one of Europe’s most charming destinations. Design is by London-based Alexander Waterworth Interior Design firm and Austria-based BEHF Corporate Architects.

Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, Mexico — Spring, 2022

Designed to fit seamlessly into a private peninsula’s unique topography, the Four Seasons Tamarindo will feature four restaurants and bars, three pools, a full service spa amidst a tropical rainforest, water sports center, and tennis courts. The design, by Legorreta + Legorreta and TALLER | Mauricio Rocha, features natural and local materials with nods to traditional Mexican craftsmanship.

Nobu Hotel Marrakech Fall 2022

Where rich heritage meets Nobu Hospitality’s contemporary flair, Nobu Hotel Marrakech will be located in the Hivernage district, steps from the historic heart of the city. The hotel will house 71 spacious guest rooms and suites, a selection of dynamic dining venues and rooftop spaces, a luxurious spa and fitness center, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and meeting and event space.

The Madrid EDITION Winter 2022

Set in a tranquil square surrounded by historic buildings, The Madrid EDITION will showcase 200 beautifully appointed guest rooms and suites, some with terraces and five unique food and beverage outlets, an outdoor pool, state-of-the-art fitness center and spa.

Kimpton Naranta Bali — March 2022

Comprised of 50 Vilas on the southeastern corner of the island, Kimpton Naranta is a tribute to Bali and a perfect gateway to the Island of the Gods. Blending contemporary design with earthy tones, ocean views, and traditional details, the hotel features five dining options, daily wellness activities, a full service spa, and indoor/outdoor rain shower and saltwater plunge pools in villas.
