Sustainability principles govern the approach to green design, through reducing dependence on fossil fuels and synthetic chemicals, reducing encroachment on nature and meeting human needs equitably. Yet the ultimate sustainability goal is to raise the standard of living globally. Green design integrates ecological concerns, as well as social and economic ones. Acknowledging that natural resources are limited, sustainable use of materials promotes strategies of reuse and reduce, hand in hand with the creation of biomaterials from renewable sources.

Green economies deepen this understanding and celebration of the interconnectedness of craft, culture, nature and innovation. Authenticity and sustainability come with practice and true understanding of raw materials, their sources, and possibilities. When this occurs, we stop looking elsewhere and begin to discover the resources within.
