Expanding on this year’s Common Ground theme, the ICFF Talks will address the macro and micro; explore how both the home and the city are changing; what New York City’s new mayoral administration might signal for its design economy; how both the proverbial “printed page” and social media “feed” are rapidly evolving.
Taking place on the Moroso-sponsored Main Stage, STIRWorld Editor-in-Chief Amit Gupta will lead a discussion on design’s potential as a tool for cross-cultural diplomacy. While L-Acoustics’s Grace Xu is set to moderate a conversation on the critical role of sound engineering in spatial design, Metropolis magazine Senior Editor Francisco Brown will engage Jonsara Ruth (Parsons Healthy Material Lab) and Lara Kaufman (Studio Gang) in a conversation about both the ecological and health implications of various building materials. TRAME head of brand and theorist Jaime Derringer will speak to Nicholas Baker (industrial designer), Adam Rolston (INC Architecture & Design), and Erick Calderon (La Nova Tile / Art Blocks) on how AI is quickly reshaping the nature of design practice.

Dezeen US Editor Ben Dreith will host a keynote with of-the-moment architecture firm AD–WO. Together, they will consider how pavilions can be understood, more fluidly, as both structures and objects. Jack Murphy (The Architect’s Newspaper/ AN Interior Editor-in-Chief), Champalimaud Design’s Ed Bakos, Madelynn Ringo, and Modellus Novus’s Jonathan Garnett will go in-depth on why the boundaries between hospitality, residential, and retail space are blurring.
Untapped Editor-in-Chief Tiffany Jow will probe the past, present, and future of design media with industry heavyweights Jill Singer, Dan Rubinstein, and Lila Allen. Independent journalist Diana Budds will speak to Sabrina Lippman (CEO, Habitat for Humanity NYC), Treger Strasberg (founder of Humble Design), and Sara Caples (principal, Caples Jefferson Architects) about their respective initiatives and the pressing need for more social architecture across the board. Dwell Editor-in-Chief William Hanley will delve deep into all sides of the housing crisis. AIA New York President Mark Gardner will highlight two urban repair research projects carried out as part of the organization’s fellowship program. The New York Times’ Julie Lasky will lead a talk on how design impacts New York City’s economy.
