Since 1980, Bernhardt Design has been a leader and innovator in the furniture design world. President Jerry Helling heads an extraordinary creative team that continues to define Bernhardt Design as one of the world’s leading design companies with an unrivaled roster of talent. Renowned for their collaborations with both established and up-and-coming designers, the company’s advantageous partnerships have become a hallmark of their brand.

In keeping with its strong focus on collaboration with diverse and talented designers, Bernhardt Design previewed three new pieces during ICFF in May 2024: The Ice Table Collection by Daniel Germani, the Community Textile Collection by Nana Boateng, and the Friends Sofa Collection by Luca Nichetto and Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance.

The Ice Table collection

The Ice Table Collection was born in collaboration with renowned architect, artist, educator, and designer Daniel Germani. This incredible multidisciplinary designer brings his unique gifts to create a collection that is just as much art as it is furniture. Crafted from hand-blown glass, each table carries its own unique beauty. Due to the nature of blowing glass, the tables innately preserves the human touch of the artisan. President Jerry Helling expressed his long-held desire to work with Germani and said the collection is a “match made in heaven for both the designer and brand.”

Nana Boateng

The Community Textiles Collection is international menswear designer Nana Boateng’s first foray into the world of furniture. Co-founder of the acclaimed Amen & Amen Design Group, Boateng is known for dressing Hollywood’s elite, including big names such as George Clooney, Terry Crews, and David Beckham, among others. With a style and approach shaped by his Ghanaian ancestry, world travels, and the powerful women in his life, Boateng channeled all his inspirations to create the Community Collection.

The Friends Sofa Collection epitomizes Bernhardt Design’s affinity for nurtured talent and meaningful designer partnership. Created by two of the most respected names in the design world as a tribute to their longtime friendship, Noe Duchaufour-Lawrance and Luca Nichetto combine their design genius to create the aptly named collection. Both designers have a long history with Bernhardt Design, and their collaboration is an exciting and poignant moment for the company.

Bernhardt Design not only works with those established in the design world but also champions up- and-coming designers. For 19 years, Bernhardt Design has sponsored an interdisciplinary design studio with the distinguished ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California.

About the incredible program, Jerry Helling elaborates, “We started the ArtCenter studio to give students a ‘real life, real-time’ experience from the initial client brief through the launch of a product in the market…a process that would allow them to understand product development and how design concepts often must adapt to meet the requirements of mass production. This was an experiment to see if we could make a positive difference in design education, and nineteen years later, we are as excited about it as we were on day one.”

The Border tables

Yiting (Erin) Hou’s Border Table is the latest piece to join the Bernhardt Design portfolio following the ArtCenter program.

Inspired by the art of skating, the Border Table defines quiet power in its unique combination of beauty, elegance, and balance of core structure through its solid wood form. Ten years of Chinese painting experience during her childhood and theoretical studies at the ArtCenter College of Design primed Erin to gradually develop her modern systemic design philosophy. Erin explains that her style involves “hiding the power of dynamics in the simplicity of the static structure to show the integration between vitality and stillness, fulfilling both aesthetic mentality and practical usage.”

As a founding member of Be Original Americas, Bernhardt Design is also committed to the importance of preserving original design through education and informational programming.
