Vitra continues to demonstrate how timeless design can evolve while remaining true to its original vision. In addition to furnishing the ICFF Media Lounge, the company marked a significant milestone with the introduction of the Panton Chair Limited Edition 2026, created in celebration of the 100th anniversary of renowned Danish designer Verner Panton’s birth.
Originally conceived in the late 1950s and brought into serial production through Vitra in 1967, the Panton Chair transformed furniture design as the first all-plastic, single-piece cantilever chair. Its sculptural form, innovative construction, and bold use of color established it as one of the defining icons of twentieth-century design. Today, it remains part of the permanent collections of major museums around the world and continues to influence generations of designers.

The Limited Edition 2026 draws inspiration from Panton’s unmistakable approach to color. Throughout his work, he embraced rich, expressive hues to shape atmosphere and evoke emotion, intentionally excluding black and white from many of his compositions. Reflecting that philosophy, the anniversary edition introduces a vibrant palette arranged as a seamless progression across the color spectrum, celebrating the designer’s lifelong exploration of color as an essential design element.
To make the anniversary release even more meaningful, Vitra invited the public to participate in the selection process. Seven colors were initially unveiled, and design enthusiasts were encouraged to vote for their favorites through a global social media campaign. The winning selections now make up the final Panton Chair Anniversary Edition 2026, which is being produced in a limited run of 2,000 chairs. The initiative creates a thoughtful connection between one of modern design’s most celebrated works and today’s global design community.

Vitra’s presence at ICFF reflects the same values embodied by the Panton Chair: innovation, craftsmanship, and a commitment to creating environments that enrich everyday life. By furnishing the ICFF 2026 Media Lounge, Vitra contributed to a welcoming space for conversation, collaboration, and discovery while reinforcing its longstanding dedication to thoughtful, design-driven experiences.
More than five decades after its introduction, the Panton Chair continues to feel remarkably contemporary. The Limited Edition 2026 honors Verner Panton’s enduring creative legacy while celebrating the lasting relevance of a design that continues to inspire collectors, designers, and enthusiasts around the world.
