To kick off ICFF GRID, we visited MIOS, winner of the 2026 ICFF Best of Launch Pad Award in Lighting. In this edition of Inside New York Design, founders Christian and Renata explore their concept of “New Mid Century,” sharing how contemporary tools, materials, and methods of production can carry the experimental spirit of mid-century design into the future.

For Marx Et Al, design looks to the past to create something distinctly contemporary. Drawing inspiration from Art Deco, architecture, painting, and decorative arts, founder Aaron Marx reinterprets historical references through modern materials, fabrication, and hand-finished processes. We visited the studio to explore how history, craftsmanship, and the interiors where objects live shape his practice.

We also visited ceramic artist and designer Sivim Ly, whose work blurs the boundaries between function, sculpture, and ornament. Inspired by New York’s architectural details, Ly places decoration at the center of the design process, transforming ornamental elements into defining features of each object.

And most recently, we stepped inside the Brooklyn studio of Mokko Seishin, founded by Robert Seishin Rurup. Moving between furniture and smaller hand-carved objects, Rurup explores how working at different scales encourages a slower, more intuitive approach to making. Through close attention to material and process, his practice offers a moment of quiet reflection amid the constant movement of New York City.
