Amie Gross AIA founded Amie Gross Architects (AGA) in 1984 with the conviction that people of all incomes and needs deserve to be surrounded by high quality, well-crafted architecture. Ms. Gross has championed the causes of diversity, community alliance, and direct engagement with urban policy. At AGA, architecture is the art of building communities. Ms. Gross elaborated on this approach in her TEDx talk: Seeding Community. The firm’s site, amiegrossarchitects.com, shows the breadth of our work and the values that guide the firm.

AGA designs community enriching buildings and interior environments in housing, education, and healthcare for mission based organizations and public entities. As leaders in the design of affordable and supportive housing, AGA works on the front lines of the New York City affordability and supply crises. Ms. Gross testified to the New York City Planning Commission and the NYC City Council in support of the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity, as this important legislation moved thorough to its passage in 2025. And, the expertise of AGA in the design of affordable housing and policy culminated in our work for the Micro Unit featured at the exhibit Making Room at The Museum of the City of New York which was published worldwide.

AGA has been recognized in the media including The New York Times, Harper’s Magazine, Crain’s, Oculus, New York YIMBY, and numerous blogs. We have received numerous awards, both local and national. Our built work, research and advocacy are often intertwined and allow us to push the boundaries of urban policy on behalf of our clients and the people they serve, to create affordable and sustainably built structures that are made to last. We take our inspiration from our clients who are primarily not-for-profit developers and see ourselves as the stewards of their visions for a more inclusive and equitable environment.

As housing becomes increasingly out of reach for people across income spectrums and in locations all over the world, these designers are working at scales that range from an apartment tower to your kitchen table to make good design available to everyone.
