
Monica Correia
Professor and Head of the 3D Design ProgramUniversity of Iowa"Monica Correia is an architect, designer, and Professor of 3D Design at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. She is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she received her cum laude Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She earned her MFA in 3D Design from the University of Iowa.
Her practice spans a wide range of media, materials, technologies, and scales. She continuously investigates ways of combining materials, colors, and textures with diverse technologies and processes to create meaningful connections with users. She is currently developing textile research that aims to blend traditional techniques with technology in the development of products and furniture.
Correia has exhibited her work at numerous international art and design venues, including Design London, London Design Fair, 100% Design: Emerging Brands, and DesignJunction (UK); EDIT DesignJunction and DIN – Design In (Milan, Italy); the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City; the Interior Design Show (IDS) in Toronto, Canada; BIO.23 – Biennial of Design in Ljubljana, Slovenia; and Salão Design Casa Brasil in Brazil, among others.
Her work as Professor and Head of the 3D Design Program at the University of Iowa School of Art, Art History, and Design has been recognized with the prestigious ICFF Editors’ Award for Best School in New York City in 2015.
Before moving to the United States, Correia taught at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro School of Architecture and worked on interior design projects for stores and shopping malls in Brazil and Portugal."
