The North American Studios sessions are dedicated to North American-based designers, makers, and studios. In this session, we introduce you to Loose Parts, Archilume, & Brite Bodies.
Loose Parts
Loose Parts is a furniture system made up of hardwood rails, aluminum panels and metal fasteners designed to adapt to changing needs and environments. Based on an intuitive building system, the invitation to assemble, disassemble and reassemble drives our design process, with the goal of ultimately reducing furniture landfill waste, encouraging reuse, and inspiring individual acts of agency.
Archilume
Designed and manufactured in Vancouver, BC, Archilume’s manufacturing ethics stem from a principle of maximizing the use of smaller local production facilities to create an inherently energy-efficient product with a reduced carbon footprint. This business practice contributes to a healthy local economy with high standards of production quality.
Archilume’s glare-free luminaires are a revolution in the use of LED lighting due to the use of the total internal reflection (TIR) optical principle. Archilume’s unassuming simplicity masks a visionary design that transforms energy-efficient LED lighting into clean, modern luminaires. The dimmable lighting collection includes pendant lights, ceiling chandeliers, and wall sconces as well as customized configurations to create impactful feature lighting installations.
Brite Bodies
Brite Bodies is an Atlanta-based design studio founded by interior designers Kate Hayes and Krista Sharif. United by a shared passion for playful, heirloom furniture and accessories, Hayes and Sharif founded Brite Bodies in an effort to blend old world materials with futuristic artistry, creating designs that are sophisticated, whimsical, and wildly original. Drawing inspiration from the modern punk designs of Vivienne Westwood to the geometry found in celestial motifs, Brite Bodies debut collection (slated to launch May 2021) will feature spirited and exuberant functional furniture and accessories in which joyful irreverence hopes to spark human connection, conversation and inclusion.
Conceived and realized in the wake of COVID-19, the underlying themes of escapism and transcendence can be found within the collection’s eleven pieces, including the Antoine Cocktail Table, Frank Martini Table, Abbott Coffee Table, Vivienne Pedestal, Ettore Pedestal, Cerulean Prism Pedestal, Black Prism Pedestal, White Prism Pedestal, Citron Cylinder Pedestal, Obelisk, and Short and Tall Candlesticks (available in various colors).
A freeform approach to design, Brite Bodies practice is grounded in imaginative and experimental methods. Using plaster, resin, wood and brass as material inspiration, the playful lines and exuberant colors of the collection hope to inspire positivity and change. Designed by Hayes and Sharif, the line will be launching in May of 2021.
