Tod Von Mertens, LLC is a small furniture design-build firm with a focus on combining steel and wood elements. The woods that we use are locally sourced or salvaged, and finished are finished with a proprietary process that reacts with the mineral composition of the wood, changing the color without applied tints. They are then finished with an extremely low VOC waterborne finish and polished by hand to a silky, smooth luster. The steel that we use has an incredibly high recycled content, and it is so satisfying to throw the few scraps that I make into the recycling bin, knowing that someday that steel may return to out shop in a new form.
