A series of serendipitous events re-charted the course of Emeco, a company founded in 1944 to build chairs for submarines in WWII. The story of re-directing this historic manufacturer from a one chair/one customer company to a world recognized leader in design is a classic American riches-to rags-to-riches tale, featuring Philippe Starck, The Museum of Modern Art and the 1006 Navy chair, perhaps the most recognized American furniture icon of the 20th Century.
